The suspects also made video calls on smartphones and laptops.

Cyber experts say VoIP’s biggest advantage over standard telephone systems is its low cost. Internet calls to Saudi Arabia are cost-effective and difficult to trace. Police have claimed the arrested men had plans to assassinate Dharwad MP Prahlad Joshi, MLC and newspaper baron Vijay Sankeshwar and journalists Vishveshwar Bhat and Prathap Simha. Six of them were arrested in Bangalore on Wednesday and the others in Hubli. Ashoka said: “The home department is writing to the ministry of home affairs (MHA) asking for its inputs on the flow of money to these operatives. Even Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde has sought details. These people would not have gained strength without proper training.

We suspect a couple of them trained in Saudi Arabia. One of the arrested men posed as a Hindu to get a job.’’ Sources in the home department said Intelligence Bureau sleuths are camping in Bangalore since Thursday.

In London an Indian-origin research geneticist who pioneered a celebratory work on eccentric creatures capable of reproducing without sexual contact has claimed that humans too are on the course for sexless reproduction in future.

Aarathi Prasad from Imperial College London suggests that humans could well be looking at a future where babies are born without any sperm donors, let alone contact between the sexes. Her book ‘Like A Virgin’ explores a fundamentally serious theme we human beings are in control of our own destiny and there is nothing sacred or special about life itself.

This is so because we live in a world where science means we can manipulate everything, even the process of reproduction, the Daily Mail reported. The central tenet of Aarathi’s story is that virgin births are now almost within the grasp of science. An artificial womb — a plastic container specially designed to hold fluids and bacteria found in natural wombs, has already been pioneered in Australia.

Aarathi says it will one day be technically possible for a man to develop a child in one of these ‘wombs’ without the co-operation of any female partner. She points out that science has already developed artificial sperm. And that such sperm has produced offspring. One girl told other young men that she was a lawyer and convinced them she was the perfect mate for them. At least seven men from the city and elsewhere in the state were smitten and ‘married’ her before realizing a few others had similarly fallen for her. By then, it was too late. After a football player from Pulianthope and a car showroom employee from Mugalivakkam, who together lost Rs 3 lakh to her, lodged complaints, police are looking for the woman who gave her name as Shahnaz and claimed she was from Thiruvananthapuram.

She gave all her victims visiting cards that showed her to be a law graduate. In his complaint to police Commissioner J K Tripathy on Wednesday, Manikandan said he met her at the automobile showroom where he worked. Shahnaz showed him a photograph of a man who she claimed had cheated her friend promising marriage.

She took Manikandan’s number and later proposed to him. The two got married on May 21, 2011 at a temple in Kunrathur and a grand reception was held at Porur. Later, she told Manikandan she was practising at the Madras high court and also wanted to enter the IAS. “She said she wanted to concentrate on her studies and asked me to put her in a hostel at Saidapet. I borrowed Rs 1.8 lakh to help her in July,” Manikandan said. He continued to visit the hostel.

On November 8, Manikandan received a phone call saying the woman was missing from the hostel for more than a week. Later, he received a call from a man named Venkatesan who said she had cheated his brother of a huge sum in similar fashion. Subsequent inquiries revealed that she had cheated others, too, but Manikandan didn’t approach police as he was ashamed to admit he had been conned. He other complainant, football player Prasanna said he had been in love with Shahanaz for some years but they got married five months ago after she threatened to commit suicide. In his complaint, Prasanna said he met her at a supermarket in Vepery.

A while after the wedding at the Uthukadu Ellaiamman temple in Kancheepuram, Prasanna became suspicious when the supermarket owner showed him photographs of Shahnaz with other men. “I confronted her, but she said the owner was a pervert who always harassed her,” Prasanna said. “When a few others told me she had married another person from the same area, I decided to lodge a complaint,” he said. Preliminary investigation revealed that the woman had cheated seven men from various places in the state. We have heard about several stories that young men cheated several girls and married them and went away with jewels and money. But this is different where a Girl cheated several boys and looted their money. Hence in future young boys must take much more care in selecting brides for their wedding.

International Cricket Council (ICC) umpire Asad Rauf has been accused by a Mumbai-based model, Leena Kapoor, of sexually exploiting her for several months after promising marriage. Rauf, a Pakistani national, has been coming to India for several cricket tournaments, including the Indian Premier League, during which Leena alleges they had a relationship.

The 21-year-old model has filed a written complaint with DCP Pratap Dighavkar, in which she claims she had a sixmonth affair with the 56-yearold umpire, which was prolonged only because he promised that they would soon get married. However, she says, Rauf has now backed off.

When I tried calling him a few days ago, there was no response,” she says, adding that last week, Rauf called her to say that he did not know who she was and refused to have any more interaction.

Pakistani website the news.com.pk quoted Rauf as denying the allegations and saying Kapoor was seeking to gain publicity by linking her name to his.Model Leena Kapoor, who stays at Oshiwara, claims she met Rauf for the first time in Sri Lanka six months ago through a mutual friend. “We exchanged numbers and stayed together in the island nation for three days,” she says. “He also came to Mumbai to meet me when Iwas ill and we became closer.”

Leena has been quoted as saying that she would ask Rauf several times about marriage and “he would always tell me that it would happen soon”. “He also offered to buy me a flat in Mumbai. But I never wanted his money. I have enough for myself and am busy with my work,” she told.
