TheMadurai Adheena mutt building in South Avani Moola Street in Madurai was decked up with floral decorations to greet Nithyananda who arrived with the senior pontiff on Sunday [29-4-2012]. Desikar crowned Nithayananda, as a sign of nominating him as the 293rd pontiff of the mutt.


Amid protests from Hindu outfits, the pontiff of a centuries-old Madurai mutt, Arunagirinatha Desikar on Sunday defended his decision to appoint the scandal-tainted god man Nithyananda as his successor. “It is a well thought out decision for the welfare and growth of the mutt,” he said on Sunday. The charges against Nithyananda are false and those leveling allegations against him are ignorant, he said addressing a media meet along with Nithyananda, even as a group of activists from Hindu organizations staged a protest outside the mutt.


Neither the government nor Hindu organizations could interfere in the administrative matters of the mutt, said the senior pontiff. Justifying his decision to appoint Nithyananda, Desikar said, “I was looking for a successor for the Adheenam (mutt) for the past eight years. The moment I saw him at ‘Nithyananda Dhyana Peedam’ at Bidati in Bangalore, a divine voice told me he was the right person. I spoke to Nithyananda about this. He hesitated due to the allegations leveled against him. But I convinced him that the Adheenam needs an individual with spiritual and administrative skills.”


Two years ago, a sex tape allegedly involving Nithyananda and a Tamil actor, was aired by television channels. In April, 2010, the goodman was arrested by Karnataka police along with some of his associates on several charges, including rape and criminal intimidation. He was later released on bail.


Madurai Adheenam is one of the oldest mutts in India, believed to have been established 1,500 years ago by the Saivaite saint Thirugnasambandar.


Arunagirinatha Desikar denied allegations that Nithyananda was nominated as the successor because he gave a hefty donation to the mutt. Seated in a gold plated throne, Nithyananda said, “I had offered 1 crore as ‘patha kanikkai’ soon after I was chosen as the successor. I will offer 4 crore more,” he said. He denied the allegations against him and said he was falsely implicated in the case.


Madurai Adheenam Arunagiri Nathar says, that there was a Hotel constructed at the place of Adheenam and like that I have given lease of land of 1250 acres donated by king Koon Pandian to the owner of the Hotel. He told that he has asked them to hand over both the places to the Mutt otherwise he will give a complaint to the Police.


Adheenam also told prior to the year 1865 the Madurai Meenakshi Amman temple administration was under the control of Madurai Mutt and subsequently it was taken by The Government. Nithyananda wants the administration of The Temple to be handed over to Madurai Adheenam.


The controversial God man was not belonging to the hereditary of
Madurai Adheenam and he is having an eye with the properties of the Mutt. Nithyananda says he has given one Crore as Patha Kanikkai and he has having intention of giving four Crore more.


By accepting these monetary benefits Madurai Arunagirinatha Desikar handing over the Mutts administration and the post of Mutt head to Nithyananda, with the intention of deliberately cheating the people and spoiling the hereditary fame of the 1500 years old Saivite Mutt.


It is the request of all the people that Puratchith thalaivi Selvi Jayalalithaa must order a CBI enquiry against these illegal transactions of Nithyananda and Madurai Adheenam and not to hand over the Administration of Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple the these unreliable saints.

The controversial god man Nityananda, who is facing criminal cases, was declared 293rd pontiff of "Madurai Aadheenam", an ancient Hindu religious organisation, at Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam in Bidadi in the district. He was declared the 293rd pontiff by Arunagirinatha Sri Gnanasambanda Desika Paramacharya Swamigal, the 292nd pontiff of the Madurai Aadheenam.



Nithyananda coronation was done by the 292 pontiff of Madurai with the title His Holiness the 293rd Guru Maha Sannidhanam Srila Sri Paramahamsa Nithyananda Sri Gnanasambanda Desika Paramacharya Swamigal".



Madurai Aadheenam also declared Nithyananda as his lawful successor to deal with all movable and immovable properties of the Aadheenam, which includes over 1250 acres of land, several temples and properties in India and abroad. The Madurai Aadheenam has existed since time immemorial. However, it was revived around 1500 years ago by Tirujnana Sambandar, one of the four visionary saints of South Indian Saiva Siddhanta philosophy.



Nityananda had landed in controversy after a video footage showing him in a compromising position with an actress was telecasted by local TV channels in March 2010.He was arrested on April 21, 2010 from Solan in Himachal Pradesh. He was granted bail on June 11, 2010 by Karnataka High Court. Forensic expert P.Chandrasekaran told that the video footage of Nithyananda with Actress Ranjitha was true and not morphed. This was also telecasted by Sun News.



The appointment of controversial godman Nithyananda as the 293rd pontiff of the ancient Madurai Adheenam (mutt) has evoked strong reactions from several Hindu organisations in the region. The god man hit headlines two years ago when a video tape allegedly showing him with an actor was aired by television channels. He was later arrested on charges of fraud and released on bail. Cases relating to the scandal are pending in the courts.



Hindu Makkal Katchi president Arjun Sampath told TOI Madurai Aadheenam had set a “bad precedence” by appointing Nithyananda to the prestigious post. “It has shocked everyone. It is one of the most renowned Saivaite mutts in the country. The prestigious post is not for someone with Nithyananda’s reputation, Bramacharyam (celibacy) throughout one’s life is the main rule if one has to head the mutt,” he said.



He said there are certain rituals and rules to be followed when heads of religious establishments are chosen. “Other mutt heads like those of Thirupananthal and Dharmapuram have to be consulted and the legacy of the earlier mutt heads has to be continued. How the present Madurai Adheenam head Arunagirinatha Desikar can take such an arbitrary decision which is shocking. Nithyananda is in no way associated with the mutt or its founder saint Thirugnanasambandar.



The appointment of Nithyananda as Head of Madurai Adheenam will be a great shock to all, who are following Saivite principles and the Government of Tamilnadu should enquire how a controversial Yoga teacher not related to Madurai Adheenam hereditary was appointed as the head of the Madurai mutt.

DMK Leader Karunanidhi declared, in Chennai, that he would revive Tamil Eelam Supporters’ Organization (TESO) in Tamil Nadu to achieve the goal of a separate Tamil Eelam. Karunanidhi said that he would spend the rest of his life to achieve Tamil Eelam. He reiterated that the Centre should extend support to form a separate Eelam.



Gotabaya Rajapaksa replied if DMK Leader and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi’s unfulfilled dream was a Tamil Eelam, he should work for it in India because the largest population of Tamils lives in the Tamil Nadu state of India and not in Sri Lanka.



Nam Tamilar Party leader Seeman has replied in a interview with Tamil Magazine Junior Vikatan, that when the Tamil Eelam war was in the last stage, Karunanidhi former Chief Minister told that it is not possible for Tamil Eelam and the stand of Tamil Nadu is to go with center’s stand. Out of 250 Rajya Sabha members, 12 are nominated by the president for "special knowledge or practical experience in respect of such matters as literature, science, art and social service", according to the constitution. Sachin Tendulkar made history in March 2012 when he became the first cricketer to score 100 international centuries, in a match against Bangladesh. On Thursday, the government nominated Sachin for the post of Rajya sabha Member.


Veteran Bollywood actress Rekha is among others recommended for the Rajya Sabha member. 57-year-old Rekha, who debuted in the 1970s and ruled the Indian screen in the 1980s, has won several national awards in her acting career.


Nominating Sachin Tendulkar and Actress Rekha to the Rajya Sabha may be a populist move, but it makes little sense. There is no doubt about Sachin’s greatness as a cricketer and Rekha’s acting talent. A nomination to Rajya Sabha, however, should not be treated as a means of honouring eminent people but as a way to enrich parliamentary debate by having people with expertise in different fields. Nominating an active sportsperson and actress defeats that purpose. The Indian team spent 292 days on the road last season and Sachin himself was on the road for 216 days. His new role will force Sachin to choose between his duty to the team and his job as a parliamentarian. Like that actress Rekha has to participate in the discussion of the parliament affairs. They cannot not be compelled to make attendance in all the days in Rajya Sabha. .


It is enough to honour the Actors and sportsmen by awarding Padma Bhushan and Padma Sri Titles and also honouring them with highest Government posts.

On 22-4-2012, I went on a pilgrimage to have Dharsan of Temples from Kumbakonam Sri.Ramar Temple to Govindhapuram. First I have seen Sri. Ramar Temple and then Thiruvalanchuli Vinayakar temple,Pattesswaram Durgai Amman temple,Kalabairavar temple,Thirubhuvanam Siva temple,Pandaripuram SriVittal Rukmani temple and then Kanchi 59th peetathipathi Jagath Guru Sri Bodhendra Saraswathi Swamigal Athistanam at Govindapuram. I have published those divinely temples pictures thro “You Tube’.


Patteeswaram is situated just 8 kms from Kumbakonam. Sri Durgai shrine is very popular here.Originally Patteeswaram is known for the Shiva Temple called Sri Dhenupureeswarar temple located here. Goddess is Gnanambikai.


Patteeswaram got its name as, Patti, daughter (calf) of sacred cow Kamadhenu worshipped here. According to legend, Parasakthi wanted to perform Thapas and was trying to locate a peaceful place. She found this place and started her Thapas.


Knowing this, Kamadhenu, sent her daughter to be of help to Parasakthi during the Thapas. Lord Shiva, pleased with the Devi’s Thapas gave Dharshan to her here and assumed the name, Gabardeeswarar.


On seeing this, Patti who was helping Devi for her Thapas, also installed a Shiva Linga and started worshipping Lord Shiva here. Lord Shiva was pleased with her worship and blessed Patti here and hence the place got named after Patti as Patteeswaram.


Once, Thirugnaana Sambandar came walking down to Patteeswaram to have the dharshan of Lord Shiva. As it was hot summer, he was finding it difficult with scorching heat. Lord Shiva, realizing Sambandar’s pain, ordered his Bhoodha Ganas to hold a Muthu Pandhal (Umbrella woven with pearls) along the way to the temple, so that Sambandar can walk in the shadow.


Also Lord Shiva was too eager to see Sambandar. He was looking at the way to the temple from his Sanctum. As Nandhi was sitting in front of the Lord, he couldn’t view properly. And Lord Shiva ordered Nandhi to move a bit, so that his view is not obstructed and Nandhi obeyed. Sambandar with overwhelming joy, sung 10 hymns on Lord Shiva here. Even today, one can see Nandhi facing a bit away from the Lord.[See the picture}

Swamimalai Murugan Temple is a Hindu temple located in Swamimalai, 5 km from Kumbakonam on the banks of river Cauvery. It is one of the Arupadaiveedu, believed to be the six main abodes of Muruga. I have went to this place on 22-4-2012.


In Swamimalai, Lord Muruga is known as "Swaminatha Swami". The specialty of the temple is that it has been built on an artificial hill. In Tamil language, such an artificial hill is called "Kattu Malai". The next important feature is the steps of this small artificial hill. There are 60 steps and each is named in one Tamil year. There are a total number of 60 Tamil years and hence the 60 steps.


The history of the temple known as "Sthala Puranam" is as follows: Once, Lord Brahma, the creator of living beings, had disrespected Lord Muruga (the son of Lord Shiva) at the time of visiting Mount Kailash where Lord Shiva resides. Hence Lord Muruga got angry with Lord Brahma and asked him how he was creating living beings such as people, animals etc. Lord Brahma said that he was creating living beings with the help of the Vedas. On hearing the reply, Lord Muruga asked Lord Brahma to recite the slogans from such Vedas. Brahma started to recite the slogans with the Holy word called Pranav Mantra "Om".


At that time Lord Muruga stopped Lord Brahma and asked him to tell the meaning of the Pranava Mantra. Lord Brahma couldn't tell the meaning and hence Lord Muruga knocked Lord Bramha on his forehead with His clenched fists and punished him with imprisonment. With Brahma imprisoned, Lord Muruga took up the role of the Creator. Creation went better than usual, with

Lord Muruga presiding over Satya-loka and Lord Brahma’s absence was unnoticed. Until one incident which brought the Devas to Satya-loka seeking Lord Brahma caused great surprise to them that Lord Bramha was imprisoned and Lord Muruga wearing the garb of the Creator. They requested Lord Vishnu to negotiate with Lord Muruga in order to release Lord Brahma. Unfortunately, this attempt was not successful. As a final resort, Lord Shiva then went to the rescue of Lord Brahma.


Lord Shiva came to Lord Muruga and asked him to release Lord Brahma from imprisonment. Lord Muruga refused to release him on the grounds, that Lord Brahma was not suitable to do the work, as he did not known the meaning of the Pranav Mantra(Hindi: ॐ AUM).So Lord Shiva asked Lord Muruga whether He knew the meaning Himself and to tell the meaning to him, for he too wished to know It's meaning. To this, Lord Muruga declared that this was the reason why Lord Shiva is the greatest of the Trinity, as he has no ego and willingly gave full respect to him becoming a disciple to Lord Muruga,his preceptor. Lord Muruga extolled to Lord Shiva the meaning of the Pranava Mantra (Hindi: ॐ) who like a student listened with rapt attention from his beloved Son.


This important and interesting incident happened in Swamimalai and hence Lord Muruga is known as "Swaminatha Swami". The meaning of this name is "The Teacher of Lord Shiva".

Samayapuram Mariamman Temple is situated on Tiruchirappalli Chennai NH 45, just 20 kms north of Tiruchirappalli town. I have visited this temple on 21-4-2012.The Maariamman Temple here is one of the well visited shrines in Tamilnadu, and in all Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays hundreds of devotees throng the temple and perform Poojas. The offerings are in various forms. The most common offering is the Mavilakku Mavu made of jagery, riceflour,dhal and ghee. Mariamman is a form of Shakti worshipped in Tamilnadu, and is associated with prosperity and health. Local beliefs associate this deity with cures for diseases such as small pox and chicken pox.



It is believed that the processional image of Mariamman was in the possession of the Vijayanagar monarchs and that as their empire neared destruction, this image was brought down to Tamilnadu in an ivory palanquin. It is believed that the palanquin bearers placed image on the ground and paused for rest, and then found themselves to be unable to lift it off the ground.



A temple was then established in the vicinity of Tiruchirappalli, which was later expanded by Vijayaranga Chokkanatha Nayak of Madurai of the 18th century. Samayapuram was the local capital of Vijayanagar rulers and was known as Vikramapuram.



Annual festivals are celebrated during Thai Poosam, and in the Tamil months of Pankuni and Chittirai. The last Sunday of Pankuni marks the commencement of the festival, while the chariot festival is celebrated on the first Tuesday in the month of Chittirai, and the float festival is celebrated a week later.
