Periyar Memorial in chennai


Known as ‘Thanthai Periyar’ he was the father of the Dravidian movement and the author of ‘Suya Mariyathai Iyakkam’ (Self respect movement). He was born on 17-09-1879 to Mr. Venkatappa Naicker and Mrs. Chinnathai Ammal in Erode. He passed away on 24-12- 1973. This Memorial is located at E.V.K. Sampath Salai, Vepery, Chennai

It integrated four technical institutions in the city of Chennai (previously knownas Madras), including the College of Engineering, Guindy, established in 1794. This place is situated at Guindy.

He was the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu from 2-10-1963 to 6-3-1967. He passed away on 13-02-1987. This Memorial is situated at Guindy.

We have had a round up in Singara Chennai and taken some videos. Surrounding areas in Chennai Vadapalani Bus Terminus are in very bad condition and not being maintained properly. The authorities should look up this matter immediately, as this bad condition will create health problem to public traveling by Bus.


The stretch from North Usman to Ranganathan Street in Chennai T.Nagar is also jam packed with retail outlets as well as pavement shops. The place is heavily crowded at all times during all season. Some strict rules to be amended for vacating the pavement shops and the road to be widened for people’s easy approach. We have shown everything in the video and it is up to the authorities to do needful to the public.

Marina beach is a very significant place in Chennai. Generally, all the important state level functions are organised here. Some of the important buildings of the state like Senate-House, Chepauk Palace, Presidency College, P.W.D office and Ice House are located on the beach drive. There are several statues of the Tamil scholars and Kannagi is the legendary heroine of the ancient Tamil literary work ‘Silapathigaram’ written by Ilango Adigal. She is seen as an enduring symbol of Tamil culture and chastity. The New Tamil Nadu Assembly Building is going to be opened by our beloved Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during March 2010.

Vadapalani Lord MuruganTemple was Built about 125 years back, this much-hallowed and regularly frequented Lord Muruga sannidhi has emerged from a thatched shed.. Around 7,000 couples are married here each year. According to the sthalapurana, one Muruga devotee by name Annaswami Tambiran with his limited means built a small thatched hut and kept a Murugan painting for his personal worship primarily. During his meditation and worship, he used to experience some divine power entering his body and inspiring him to utter some mysterious things—whatever he said in his trance was found true. His utterance went by the name of arulvakku and relieved people sufferings in several ways, like curing diseases and getting jobs, solemnizing marriages, etc. There are very many sannidhis in the vast courtyards of the temple, The moolavar in standing posture resembles the Palani Murugan in every respect. In the inner prakara, there are many niches housing Dakshina Murti, Chandikeswar, Mahalakshmi.. It has a spacious hall used for conducting marriages and religious discourses. It is one of the most-frequented Murugan shrines in the city of Chennai.


The entrance to this temple is crowned with a rajagopuram adorned with several stucco images depicting legends from the Skanda puranam. In front of the temple is the temple tank. The eastern tower rises to a height of 40.8 metres. The 108-bharata natyam dance gestures can be seen on the eastern tower as well. Let Lord Vadapalani Murugan bless all the people,

Kandakottam Kandaswami Temple is located at Park Town in Chennai. Built by Mari Chettiyar and his friend Kandapachari, two devotees of the Tirupporur Murugan temple in the 17th century, the temple has a Rajagopuram and many prakarams adorned with sculptures and carvings. The temple deity is Lord Muruga known by the name as Selva Muthu Kumaraswamy, guarded by the two brave warriors. The consorts of the idol (Valli and Devayani) are enshrined on both sides of the main sanctum.

வள்ளல ராமலிங்க அடிகளார் தமிழைக் கற்பதில் ஆர்வம கொண்டு,சென்னையில் சபாபதி முதலியார் என்பவரிடம் தமிழைக் கற்றுக்கொண்டார். சபாபதி முதலியார் வீடடுக்கு செல்லும் வழியில்தான் கந்தகோட்டம் கந்தசாமிக் கோயில் இருந்தது. வள்ளலார் தினந்தோறும் முருகன் சன்னதிக்குச் சென்று மனம் கசிந்து பல பாடல்களைப் பாடுவார். அவர் பாடிய தெய்வ மணிமாலை என்னும் நூலில்தான் கந்தசாமிக் கோயிலை கந்தகோட்டம் என்று சிறப்புப் பெயர் வைத்து அழைத்தார். சுமார் முன்னூறு ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன் கட்டப்பட்ட கந்தசம்ய்க்கோயில் இன்று கந்தகோட்டம் என்று பெருமையுடன் விளங்குகிறது.

During December 17, 1939, Periyar EVR raised the slogan "Dravida Nadu for Dravidians", changing the earlier slogan "Tamil Nadu for Tamils". It is at the Justice Party State Conference in Thiruvarur on August 24, 1940 that Tamil Nadu Independence Movement morphed into Dravida Nadu Independence Movement. Since Periar E.V.R. belongs to Kannada Naicker community and all other justice party leaders belongs to Telugu community.. At that time both Periyar E. V. Ramaswamy and C. N Annadurai were Justice Party members.


The Justice Party’s provincial conference held in Salem on 27th August 1944 marked a turning point in Periyar’s movement. The name of the Party was changed as Dravidar Kazhagam. The members were asked to give up the posts, positions and titles conferred by the British rulers. They were also required to drop the caste suffix of their names. It was also decided that the members of the movement should not contest the elections. In other words, the Justice Party, which was political, was transformed into Dravidar Kazhagam and became a non-political socio-cultural movement. It remains so even today.


Thus what started initially as Tamil Nadu independence took a turn to Dravida Nadu independence and then took a turn back to Tamil Nadu independence because there was very little, if any, support in Andhra Pradesh (Telugu), Karnataka (Kannada) and Kerala (Malayalam).

S.V.Sekar Founder of Federation of Brahmins Association [FEBAS] and Mylapore M.L.A. was a well-known Comedy Actor. He was a devotee of Kanchi Sri Jayendra Saraswathi and during Sri Jayendra Saraswathi’s arrest by A.I.A.D.M.K. Government, he met A.I.A.D.M.K. leader Jayalalitha and joined with her party. Now he is showing his faith with D.M.K. Party and with its leader Karunanidhi.
Now recently in a interview, he praised Karunanidhi telling who ever want to see him can stand in front of the Lord Krishna Temple in front of his house and if they wish the Chief Minister, Chief Minister will immediately respond to them. However, we do not know that whether Suresh a physically handicapped boy aged 25 years went to Chief Minister’s house after reading S.V.Sekar interview in Tamizhan Express Magazine. Anyhow, we are giving the story of Suresh as published in Times of India issue dated 22-1-2010.
Chennai: A 25-year-old handicapped man committed suicide near chief minister M Karunanidhi’s Gopalapuram residence by consuming poison on Friday. The man had come to meet the chief minister, but failed to get an audience.
M Suresh, a resident of Odiyathur near Salem and son of a local DMK leader called Mavood, has been staying with his uncle Ayyasamy in Velachery. Suresh has been desperately trying for a job after he dropped out of class 11, but he was turned away by many companies because of his disability. Finally, he decided to meet the chief minister and plead for a job. However, he appeared to have made up his mind on what to do in case he failed to get an audience, as he went to Gopalapuram with a poison bottle. The police personnel posted in front of the chief minister’s house refused to let him in. They asked him to approach the chief minister’s office at the secretariat. Suresh stayed back on the platform for more than half-anhour and was chased away by the policemen on duty.
He bought a soft drink from a nearby shop, mixed the poison he was carrying and drank it. Minutes later, he collapsed by the roadside on Conran Smith Salai, about 400 metres from the chief minister’s house. On information, Royapettah police rushed him to Government Royapettah Hospital. He died an hour later, not responding to treatment. Mavood, a daily wage labourer who came rushing from Salem, burst into tears on seeing his son’s body kept in the morgue on Friday evening. Mavood said, “My son was confident that he would to get a job in Chennai. He was afflicted with polio which left his right leg crippled.” Suresh is survived by his wife Vasuki. Royapettah police have registered a case under Section 174 of CrPC and further investigations are on.
It is our earnest request that S.V. Sekar should not talk everything in a comedy way that may bring danger to the life of innocent people. Anyhow, we appreciate S.V.Sekar for helping the economically weaker section people in Brahmin community and taking action in getting them seven percent reservation in job and education.
